Active Participation at Midnight Mass

Thanks to Andrea Tornelli, the Pimpernel has discovered a worthy recipient of the 2010 Active Participation Award: Father Frédéric Lefevre, Pastor of Bavinchove in the North of France. His chasuble is also a contender for the 2010 Liturgical Arts Award, but the final decision on that can wait. Enjoy this extract from his 2010 midnight Mass. If you like his style, there is a nice photo gallery on his parish website. There are more videos there too.

  1. Apparently the fullest expression of our Faith that is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is so anemic and devoid of all ability to reach the hearts and minds of the youth that it requires the cast of "Fame" to doctor it up and make it worthy of the most lackluster of off-Broadway stages. I suspect if Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber had utilized the same artistic director as this parish, "Starlight Express" would be a recurring liturgical theme throughout the universal Church and not merely a one-time performance in the north of France where, presumably, the countryside is littered with the scant remains of good taste, dignified composure, and--dare I say it--noble simplicity.

The Angels over Bavinchove wept that night; they wept bitter, bitter tears.

  2. The music is not that bad. I would listen to it while I wash dishes.

  6. Whoa. He should be suspended. Or, more likely, given a stern talking to. At least today they won't make him a Bishop. Probably.

  7. It struck me as particularly effeminate on the part of the priest - reminiscent of that Dominican 'liturgically dancing' in a tutu awhile back. "By their fruits etc."
