That was my comment. The stole goes under the chasuble.
My diocese sponsores a daily live televised Mass. One priest who celebrates Mass is vested only in a stole, no chasuble. Nothing is done to correct his error because of his ongoing desent. So much for the diocese's teaching role.....
So much for the rubrics. This is a Novus Ordo-style bishop, as most bishops are. Which means you make it up as you go along and ignore the regulations.
And a crozier made of wood . . . gag. ---------------------------------------------- All shepherd's staffs were once of wood. As a shepherd the bishop should carry a staff of wood and not a golden scepter or jeweled wand indicative of a prince or monarch.
Choice in croziers has a great deal to say about the prelate. Somewhere out there is a picture of Archbishop R. Williams brandishing what can only be described as a wooden stick crowned with a chicken claw. By the by, Anon @ 00:17, are we not all so grateful that shepherd bishops no longer dress is smelly sheep skins?
, Anon @ 00:17, are we not all so grateful that shepherd bishops no longer dress is smelly sheep skins? ---------------------------------------- I'll take the odor of lanolin from the sheep any day over the stench of hierarchical arrogance and worldliness being exuded by these pontifical cross dressers.
Almost to a man, the French bishops are despicable buffoons; notable exceptions include +Marc Aillet and +Dominique Rey. Small wonder few people take them seriously.
Two things puzzle me:
ReplyDelete1. Where did this idea of chasubles having collars come from?
2. Why is a stole, as here, placed OVER a chasuble?
Perhaps someone can help...?

Where's his badge for liturgical propriety? Missing. Bad scout.
ReplyDeleteThe deacons are missing their matching sets probably because they did not attend the same kindergarten.

What regulations? The bishops tossed those into the trash heap long ago with the full cooperation of the CDW.

ReplyDeleteI would say its more like sheep merd.
DeleteLP,
ReplyDeleteYou should post a few pics of French bishops when their dress could be described as nothing short of prelatial awesomeness! (i.e. 17th-19th Cent.)

ReplyDeleteIt's no small wonder most RCs today don't take any bishops seriously.
